The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in employing replay systems.
Video review systems will be launched at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Players are granted the ability to question specific calls from the official, mirroring the protocol currently in use at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system is slated for use on the main stadium and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This move arrives only a season following the All England Club introduced ELC, which effectively ended the centuries-old role of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the official to review other situations, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot made contact with an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Importantly, there is no limit on the number of reviews a player can ask for.
Case in Point
A recent example took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and ruled the player was responsible for interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
Video reviews are not new for major tournaments. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.
Additional Innovations
A further change at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where spectators have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was in or out.
In other news, with exactly a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, organizers have also announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
